Repairs, zoning issues and stand-by worker hired during Polk Twp. meeting

Polk Township trustees held their monthly meeting recently at the Township Hall on State Route 309 east of Galion. Trustees Tom Ray, Glenn Cheesman, and Russ Sellman were in attendance, along with Pat Rondon, fiscal officer.

Topics of discussion included building and equipment repairs, zoning issues, and the hiring of a stand-by employee, Steve Cotter, who will only be dispatched for emergency situations when extra manpower is required. It was noted that due to the mild winter weather conditions, less salt has been needed for road safety, thereby saving the township money in labor and supplies. During icy weather conditions, newly-paved roads will be given special attention since increased ice retention on the blacktop will make the roads more hazardous.

Zoning Inspector Jette Cander reported on her activity regarding township zoning issues. It was suggested and approved by trustees that residents who require and post a building permit on their property for new construction, etc., could be given, in addition to the permit, a brightly colored sign to display in a location where it can be easily identified by zoning and township authorities and accessible without disturbance to the resident.

A vote was passed on a resolution to adopt the solid waste management plan update for the Crawford County Solid Waste Management District. In addition, a review of the 2015 Galion Fire Department runs and EMS Response Report was completed. Glenn Cheesman will attend the next Health Board meeting on March 1, at 9am, at the CCPH Conference Room in Bucyrus.

Terry Gribble, candidate for Crawford County Commissioner, was on hand to present his campaign views to the group. Also, representatives of Rinehart Insurance Company and OTARMA Insurance Company offered presentations on liability and property coverage for review by the trustees.

Pat Rondon reported that the rentals of the Polk Township Event Center for various functions have been steadily increasing and that customer satisfaction with the facility is very good.

Polk Township Trustee meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will be March 16, at 7pm, at the township hall. For more information, call 419-4683888, or visit our website Polktwp.net
