DNA presentation Aug. 4
During the month of August, the Crestline Public Library continues to offer outstanding adult programs as part of their Summer Reading Program “Literary Elements.” Join us Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. Michael Veltran from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office will present a program on the use of DNA in law enforcement.

The Galion Board of Health will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 7:30 a.m., at the City Building. The Board will discuss the hiring of a new health commissioner.

Getting Ahead informational meeting Aug. 5
The Getting Ahead program is having an informational meeting on Aug. 5 at Galion Alliance Church at 7 p.m. All are invited to attend to learn more about this program to address poverty in the community. For those who wish to be a part of the program, the training will be held at Free Methodist Church in the evenings, which includes dinner and child care, and some transportation will be provided to participants. Movie Night Aug. 5

Galion kindergarten registration Aug. 6
A combined kindergarten registration and screening will be held for Galion City Schools at Galion Primary School, 478 Portland Way North, on Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Children must be 5 years old before Aug. 1 in order to start kindergarten in the fall. When registering, the following items are needed: Child, Child’s Birth Certificate, Shot Records, Social Security Card.
In case of divorce or separation, legal custody papers are required. Proof of residency (i.e., utility bill, rental agreement, or tax forms). You must have an appointment for your registration and screening. Please call the Galion City Schools at 419-468-3432 to schedule an appointment.
Instrument donation drive Aug. 6
On Wednesday, Aug. 6, please drop off any unneeded, gently used musical instruments at Memory Lane Auto Museum, 124 Harding Way West. Owner Jim Hedges is collecting instruments to donate them to the Galion Middle School for band students to use. The store will be open from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Join the Friends of the Big Four Depot for the Lincoln Highway Buy-Way Sales on the grounds of the Depot on Aug. 7, 8 and 9. From 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. each day there will be food vendors, arts & crafts and of course great yard sale deals of all kinds! Reserve a 10x10 space for $15 per day or $30 for all three days. Larger vendors/food vendors will be $25 per day or $65 for all three days. You are responsible for bringing your own tables & chairs. Overnight security will be provided.

First Lutheran Buy-Way Sale Aug. 7-9
First Lutheran Church in Galion will hold its fourth annual Lincoln Highway Buy-Way Sale event in the fellowship hall of the church located at 127 S. Columbus St. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 7, 8 and 9. The sale will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday; Saturday hours will be 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday will also be $1 Bag Day. Visitors are welcome to use the back door of the building for immediate access to the sale site. Handicapped access is available through the front door via the elevator down the hall to the left. This fundraising event supports the church’s ministries.

Cookbook Sale Aug. 8
Friends of the Galion Public Library will host a Cookbook Sale on Friday, Aug. 8 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. It will be a large sale of over 1000 cookbooks (hardback, softcover, spiral etc.) at the Galion Public Library. All of these quality cookbooks were generously donated by a local patron, and came from her personal collection. Through her generosity the Friends will be able to continue to support the Director and her staff with needed materials for promotion of their interesting programs offered to children and adults. As always the Friends thank the community for their continued support.
United Way Glow Ball Aug. 8
United Way of Crawford County and Cranberry Hills Golf Course are teaming to bring you Glow Ball 2014. An evening glow golf outing sponsored by First Federal Community Bank, on Friday, August 8, at Cranberry Hills in New Washington. Watch your golf shots fly into the night sky, and play golf like you have never played it before. Registration begins at 6:00 PM, followed by a full course meal at Cranberry Hills Banquet Hall starting at 6:30 PM. Glow golf will begin promptly at 8:00 PM.
The cost is $50.00 per person, which includes dinner and golf. Plus don’t miss the raffles, 50/50 drawings and more. The deadline to register is August 4, 2014. MARENGO — Now that it is time to get that back to school shopping finished, to get ready for the Morrow County Fair and finish your summer activities, you probably could use a little rest. “Wizard of Oz” Aug. 8, 9, 10
Galion Community Theatre will present “The Wizard of Oz” on August 8, 9 and 10. Friday and Saturday evening performances will begin at 7:30 p.m., with matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. The cast is made up of youngsters ages 7 to 18 who are participating in GCT’s summer theatre workshop for children. Drop a Beat Aug. 9
Teens ages 12-18 are invited to the Galion Public Library, 123 N. Market St., on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 3:30-4:30 pm for the hands-on music program “Drop a Beat, Rock the Mic!” presented by The Cooking Caravan. Participants will learn how to mix, mash, and scratch beats at the DJ center as well as write and perform rhymed couplets on a live microphone at the MC center. This hands-on program combines music theory and literacy and ends with a wild performance. Registration is required. Pack the Park Aug. 9
Pack the Park on Aug. 9! This event is a donation drive and movie sponsored by the Crawford County Young Professionals and the Crawford County Farm Bureau Young Agricultural Professionals. It will begin at 8:30 p.m. at the New Washington Village Park in New Washington. All donated items will directly benefit the New Washington Community Blessings Program. Suggested items for donation include: Microwavalbe pasta dinners, peanut butter, granola bars, Poptarts, single-serving cereal, fruit cups and juice boxes. Rain date is Aug. 23.
Daylily Demonstration Aug. 9
MANSFIELD — Join Bill Collins, Kingwood’s Head Gardener, to learn how to lift and divide daylilies. He will demonstrate the proper technique in Kingwood Center’s gardens on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Participants will take several divisions home from the Kingwood daylily collection. Class will meet at the Meeting Hall, but demonstrations will be outdoors. Fee is $15 per person, which includes admission to Kingwood, $13 for members & volunteers. Mustache Mania 5K Run/Walk Aug. 9
TIFFIN — Heidelberg University will be hosting the Inaugural Mustache Mania 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Aug. 9. Registration will be from 7:30-8:30 a.m. in Seiberling Gymnasium. Race begins at 9 a.m. and runners will be divided into age groups: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+. There will also be a one mile fun run for kids 14 and under that begins immediately before the 5K. Awards to top overall male and female finishers, and top three finishers in each age group. Post-race refreshments and showers will be available.
