Annual Fly In Day Held

The sky in Cardington on Sunday, October 11, was filled with planes and helicopters flying overhead.

Joe Dreyer, hosted his third annual “My Place Fly In Day” for friends and fellow flyers.

Dreyer, a long time resident of Morrow County, has been flying for over 20 years. The Fly In Day is a chance for Dreyer and friends who share his passion to spend time eating, sharing stories and doing what they love the most, flying.

Dreyer transformed his field into a runway for his friends to take off and land their aircraft. Several thrilled the crowd with aerial stunts and fly overs.

The all day event had 150 people from all over Ohio who attended breakfast and over 700 people fed throughout the course of the day.

The weather was nearly perfect for flying and those who took the opportunity to go up in the air were able to see spectacular fall foliage from a vantage point that few have an opportunity to see.

There are only three rules of the Fly In day. Rule number one, find someone you don’t know and talk to them. Rule number two, eat something. Rule number three; start over at rule number one. There was definitely enough food to fulfill rule number two.

In addition to feeding everyone, Dreyer made sure that everyone had a good time. There was entertainment by the Spangler Sisters, pumpkin painting for the kids, a large corn box, hayrides and many other family friendly activities.

One of the highlights of the day was airplane and helicopter rides. The helicopter was flown by Lynn Coriell and airplane rides were given by Butch Fisher of Fisher Ag Services and Zach Haskins who works for Fisher’s Ag service. A steady stream of passengers went up into the air to get a birds-eye view of the county.

“We had 42 planes at breakfast but folks flew in and out all day. I’d say we had over 50,” shared Dreyer.”
