Benefit planned for Bucyrus woman with cancer

On July 27, Cheryl Lynn Barnett of Bucyrus received the worst news of her life: she was diagnosed with stage three ductal breast cancer. With medical bills piling up, Barnett’s sister, Cindy Stauffer, put the wheels in motion to help her out.

“My sister is so amazing. She’s strong, courageous and determined to kick-it. Most importantly, she’s beautiful. After losing her hair after her first chemotherapy treatment, she stood tall, looking just as beautiful without the hair,” said Stauffer. “ I used to think I was strong and able to handle things but I have found that I am not.”

A benefit is being held to offset Barnett’s medical bills and is being organized by Cynthia and Ken Quick and their daughter Karlina along with Donald Collins and Stauffer at noon on Saturday at the Crawford County Conservation League, 3477 Ohio 98, Bucyrus.

“There will be a DJ from 1 to 4 p.m. then other music after that. We will hold a corn hole tournament from 2 to 6 p.m. and there will be a live auction at 6 p.m. along with a 50/50 raffle throughout the event,” Stauffer said.

For the dinner, the cost is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children ages 6 to 12 and children age 6 and under eat for free.

Barnett lives with Stauffer and their mother.

“My sister is my very best friend, I will be with her every step of the way as she has done for us. She’s our rock and keeps everything going the best she can. She has not had any income for some time and has struggled with more issues than one person should, yet she keeps us all smiling and happy, full of laughter,” Stauffer said.

Barnett, who is a mother and grandmother, is undergoing weekly chemotherapy treatments to battle the very aggressive form of cancer she has been diagnosed with.

Stauffer said the support for the benefit and to help her sister has been amazing.

“We thank everyone so much for their help. Everyone has been so amazing,” Stauffer said. A Gofundme.com account has also been set up for Barnett at https://www.gofundme.com/572ww8ew.
