Hear favorite Beatles songs and sip a cool drink at sunset to support Knox County cyclists riding in Pelotonia, the bike tour to raise money for cancer research with routes that stop at Kenyon College.
The Ticket to Ride celebration at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, features Cleveland’s top-notch Beatles tribute band Revolution Pie, performing on a sloping lawn at Kenyon that overlooks wooded hillsides. More than 7,000 cyclists participate in the August ride benefiting the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Knox County celebration will feature inspirational appearances by people whose lives have been changed by OSU’s Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital.
Riders completing longer routes of 75 or 100 miles on Aug. 8 end at the Kenyon Athletic Center, and it’s the halfway point for cyclists who ride back to central Ohio on Aug. 9.
“We’d like to make it easier for Knox County riders to raise the funds to participate, increase our destination county’s presence in this important cause and invite riders to join the Kenyon peloton team,” said concert organizer Sarah Kahrl, who rode the 100-mile route last year and is Kenyon’s senior adviser to the president for strategic initiatives.
Riders typically raise $1,200 to $1,800 each. For each $50 admission to Ticket to Ride, $35 is tax-deductible and can be allotted to a specific rider selling tickets.
Concertgoers will enjoy a party food and dessert buffet at Kenyon’s Peirce Hall from 6:30-9:30 p.m., and they will receive two drink tickets for beer or wine. Everyone receives a souvenir Ticket to Ride beach mat, or people can bring chairs to the lawn outside Peirce Hall, 201 College Park St. “Dancing is optional, but you may not be able to help yourself,” Kahrl said.
Kenyon College is sponsoring the concert event venue and entertainment and invites local corporations to help through sponsorships. Tables of eight are available on the patio outside the dining hall for $1,000 or $2,000.
