The Galion Alliance Church is centered around two statements Jesus made.
“(They include) the greatest commandment, to love God with all of your heart,” church pastor Rick Maddox said. “(It also includes) a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, love for God, loving others, neighbors, community not just through church ministry. (And) the Great Commission in Mathew 28:19-20, (where) Jesus says to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
The church was founded 30 years ago and Maddox has been the pastor for the past 21 years.
“We love (the community), we are a loving body of believers,” Maddox said. “We have people who are willing to serve others. Our people are our outreach. Our members reach out to help people in the community, not just at church.”
The church has normal activities like other churches, but they have one ministry that is unique.
“The PB&J Ministry (Precious & Beloved to Jesus) is designed for those with disabilities/special needs.” Maddox said, “It is a ministry that does many different things. We have people who are trained to help children with special needs in church or Sunday School. (In addition, the group) has a back-to-school carnival and also sends people to Joni and Friends Camp. We also have a support group for adoption.”
The church believes in preaching from the Bible.
“I teach what the Bible says,” Maddox said. “A lot of preaching today has been changing. I teach what it (the Bible) means and how it applies to us. We connect the Bible with where (people) are, how they are living and how God does meet their needs.”
The pastor says preaching the Bible can do more than one thing for an individual.
“Preaching challenges people to do things they need to do,” Maddox said. “Sometimes it’s encouragement. Whatever God’s Word says is what people are going to hear.”
The church has mission conference every year called the Great Commission Conference.
“Missionaries come in that tell us what they are doing overseas,” Maddox said. “We have a dozen members who are missionaries. God has used us as an incubator. He has called a lot of people for this church into ministry. We still have a lot of people who have the calling and are getting ready to go into the ministry.”
