Staff report

Facilities Tour – A Board of Education Special Meeting was conducted from 6-7 p.m. for the annual facilities tour. The board members viewed many of the permanent improvement projects that were completed in late spring and over the summer months, including black top repair and sealing, field house lockers, gymnasium lighting upgrades and the bus garage storage addition.

The Buckeye Central Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting on July 30 at 7 p.m. at Buckeye Central Local School.

Board member Appointment:

Jerome Heydinger was appointed to the Buckeye Central Board of Education for the period of July 30- Dec. 31

Election for Board Vice-President:

Beth Diesch was nominated and installed as the Vice-President for the Board of Education

Board Committee Reports:

Financial – Mrs. McDougal met with Mrs. Ackerman to review the district finances prior to the meeting. The “actuals” are nicely paralleling the projections with revenues pacing slightly ahead of the forecast.

Legislative – Mr. Martin shared that the Ohio legislature chose to not address charter school accountability in the most recent sessions. This topic will be monitored as reasonable accountability standards for public and charter schools alike are believed most appropriate.

Financial Report:

Financial reports were read and approved

Bills approved as submitted

The financial report for June 30, 2015 was given to the Board. This brings fiscal year 2015 to a close with a positive cash balance. We have basically had two break-even years in 2012 & 2013 followed by two very good years in 2014 & 2015. We are currently in the process of planning and budgeting for fiscal year 2016. We have received some preliminary good news from the state concerning funding and will be working on building the five year forecast.

Superintendent’s Report and Discussions:

Mr. Robinson and board members discussed mission, vision, and goals for the 2015-2016 school year. Ideas were generated and the agenda draft items were reviewed. Mrs. Diesch and Mr. Robinson will compile the ideas presented and recommend a finalized draft at the August 2015 board meeting.

The board approved the following Superintendent recommendations:

Building use form for the Buckeye Central Youth Football to use the parking the football practice facility and game field from July 27 – Nov. 10 with Scott McDougal and Chris Martin in charge

Create an Assistant Director – Marching Band position

Elementary (K-6) and MS/HS (7 -12) handbooks for the 2015-2016 school year

Lunch prices as follow for 2015-2016:

Student Breakfast – $1.25

Adult Breakfast – $1.50

Student Lunch (K-6) – $2.50

Student Lunch (7-12) – $2.80

Adult Lunch (no milk) – $3.00

Annual Membership Contribution to Crawford County Family & Children First Council

Interagency Agreement between Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission Head Start and Crawford County Ohio Heartland CAC Head Start

MOU between the school districts of Crawford County and Ohio Heartland CAC Head Start

Contract with North Central Ohio Educational Service Center (NCOESC) for Audiology Services for FY-2016

Community Counseling Services, Inc. Memorandum of Understanding for the 2015 – 2016 school year

Resignation of Kevin Vargyas, Athletic Director/Assistant Principal effective the end of the 2014-2015 contract year

Classified supplemental positions:

Ben Lash – Groundskeeper/field preparation for 2015-2016 school year

Mike Dean – Middle School Football

Old Business: Mrs. Diesch provided information on the CRP contract which expires on September 30, 2015. The board agreed that it would be in the best interest of the district to pursue a renewal of the contract. Plans are being made accordingly.

Executive Session:

The board went into executive session at 8:10 p.m. for the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of an employee or official. The executive session adjourned at 8:35 p.m.

Hire Interim Athletic Director

Following the Executive Session Jay Zeiter was approved as interim Athletic Director for the 2015 – 2016 school year

The Buckeye Central Board of Education will hold the next monthly board meeting on Thursday, Aug 13 at 7:00 p.m. at Buckeye Central Local School, 938 South Kibler Street, New Washington, in the Multi-Purpose Room.
