Tracksters qualify for regional competition

OAK HARBOR — Day number one of the three-day Division II Northwest District track and field meet took place Tuesday May, 16. The day was one filled with finals qualification and girls field events.

As for the events scored on the day, Galion has a district champion and three regional qualifiers.

Marissa Gwinner took the crown in the girls high jump with a height of 5 feet, 2 inches to advance and teammate Kerrigan Myers finished fourth. Bri Streib finished second overall in the shot put with a heave of 37 feet, 4.5 inches.

The top four placers advance to next week’s regional meet in Lexington.

TheLady Tigers currently lead the team standings with 25 points.

Jalyn Oswald qualified for the finals in the 200-meter dash. Kerrigan Myers and Brooklyn Cosey will be in the finals for the 100-meter hurdles. In the 4×100-meter relay, the squad of Oswald, Myers, Marisa Gwinner and Kylie Redmen qualified.

NORTHMOR GOLDEN KNIGHTS

PATASKALA — The track squads from Northmor are competing in the Division III Central District track and field meet.

For the Lady Golden Knights, Hope Miracle won the district event in the pole vault by clearing a height of 9 feet, 8 inches. Also advancing to the regional meet will be Julianna Ditullio. Ditullio finished fourth in the long jump at 15 feet, 9 inches. Selena Cortez was seventh in the shot put.

On the guys side, the 4×800-meter relay team of AJ White, James Walker, Alec Moore and Mostyn Evans finished fourth to qualify for regionals with a time of 8:49.57.

Northmor also qualified many athletes for event finals to be held on Saturday May 20.

Kolton Smith and Anthony Petulla will represent the gold and black in the 110-meter hurdles and Smith will be joined by Walker in the 300. The 4×200 team of Petulla, Drew Zoll, Wyatt Lessick and Calvin Komer will be in competition as well. In other relay action, the 4×400 team of Zoll, Walker, Komer and Meechie Johnson finished with the top preliminary time. Meechie will also be in the finals for the 100 and 200-meter dash.

Komer and Moore will be in the running for regional qualification in the 400-meter dash and White and Evans hope to continue their season in the 800.
