GALION — Laura Johnson puts the finishing touches on an order of cupcakes Friday morning at Cake and Icing, the bakery she and her husband opened at 114 Harding Way East.

They opened for business this week.

Johnson said she has been baking since she was a little girl. She also sells sugar cookie kits which come already-baked with home-made icing that kids — or adults — can use to decorate at home.

Johnson’s husband and Paul Sorensen have been building wooden tables for the bakery and Cake and Icing will host birthday parties, baby showers, parties at the bakery.

Johnson also teaches baking and sewing classes at the Richland Public Library and for Richland Newhope. Her menu includes cookies, macaroons, cakes for all occasions, cupcakes, chocolate and caramel-dipped apples and more.
