GALION – Galion Primary School was recently recognized as a Silver Star Breakfast All-Star School in the Ohio School Breakfast Challenge.

More than 450 schools submitted breakfast participation data to be recognized in the Ohio School Breakfast Challenge. The Primary School reported an average daily school breakfast participation rate of 60-69 percent, earning the building the recognition as a “Breakfast All-Star.”

“We work very hard to make sure as many students as possible have access to a healthy breakfast every day,” said Food Services Supervisor Jacki Corona. “A healthy breakfast prepares students for a full day of learning in the classroom, and we work diligently to provide a wide variety of healthy breakfast options for all our students.”

The benefits of breakfast are well documented. Studies show that children who eat breakfast each school day are ready to learn, which is reflected in higher test scores and better classroom behavior.

“Mrs. Corona and her staff do a great job offering many healthy options for students through the breakfast program in all our buildings,” said Superintendent Jim Grubbs. “I can’t stress enough the positive benefits students receive by eating a healthy breakfast, and encourage parents to talk with their children about the importance of eating a healthy breakfast every day.”

Schools have one more opportunity to participate in the Ohio School Breakfast Challenge through March 31, 2017. Schools that meet the Fall and/or Spring Challenge will be recognized in Summer 2017 with a Breakfast “All-Star” banner.
