BUCYRUS — A Galion man was sentenced to jail in Crawford County Common Pleas Court this week after pleading guilty to sexual-related charges.

James D. Ernsberger, 53, 4843 County Road 35, pleaded guilty to one count of compelling prostitution, a third-degree felony, and attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony, in January and was back in court to be sentenced.

Ernsberger admitted to sending text messages to a person he believed to be a 15-year-old girl, although the person was actually an undercover police officer.

Judge Sean Leuthold sentenced Ernsberger to six months in the county jail, along with five years of community control. Ernsberger must also register with the county in which he lives and works every six months for the next 25 years as a Tier II sex offender. He also must pay a $1,000 fine.

If Ernsberger fails to successfully complete his probation, he could face up to four and a half years in prison.

Another Galion man was also sentenced to serve time in the Crawford County Justice Center.

Steven C. Shaull, 58, pleaded guilty to theft and possession of drugs, both fifth-degree felonies, and was sentenced to 90 days in jail.

Shaull admitted to stealing more than $1,000 from a register at WalMart. He was later arrested by Bucyrus Police officers with assistance from Galion officers in the 100 block of Easton Way on Dec. 5, and was in possession of drugs at that time.

Leuthold also sentenced Shaull to five years of community control and ordered Shaull to pay restitution in the amount of $1,000 to WalMart along with a $1,250 mandatory drug fine.

A Mansfield man was also sentenced to five years of community control after he pleaded guilty to possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Timothy W. Moyer, 58, was also ordered to pay a mandatory $1,250 drug fine as part of his sentence.
