Same-sex marriage not having major impact in Crawford County

The Supreme Court’s recent decision to allow same-sex marriages across the country in late June hasn’t had a major impact as of yet in Crawford County.

Probate Court Administrator Rhonda Neal said she is aware of one application so far in her office.

“I’m aware of least one application and we’ve had several calls,” Neal said on Monday. “It hasn’t been cumbersome or a (major) change in activity.”

Neal said the court had to contact its software vendor to change its screens.

“There was a little cost,” she said. “But it’s not uncommon. Laws don’t stay the same. When legislature changes how law is interpreted, we have to adjust.”
