State tennis tournament berth on the line for Kayley Gimbel

SHELBY — Kayley Gimbel was back on the courts in Shelby last Saturday morning to determine her district tennis tournament seeding.

Gimbel was a perfect 3-0 last Thursday to win herself a spot at the tournament in Bowling Green on Thursday. She had a straight-set victory over a girl from Norwalk, was taken to three sets against Ontario and thumped her St. Peter’s opponent without dropping a game.

On Saturday, Gimbel’s first opponent was a girl from Lexington High School. Gimbel lost 2-6, 3-6. But she bounced back against a girl from Willard winning 6-3, 6-2. Gimbel finished the day on that victory and was awarded a third-place seed for the district tournament.

Gimbel is 21-3 this year in singles action. A berth in the state tennis tournament is on the line this week.
