GALION — On the morning of July 19, the unthinkable happened as Rhonda Molton of the Chris Schiefer Nationwide Insurance Agency on Harding Way West collapsed.

Molton was in cardiac arrest and her co-workers immediately leaped into action, with Chad Ruhl giving her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and Chris Kostelnik calling 911.

“Within 120 seconds, Galion Police Officer Ryan Novik was there and began doing CPR. With the Lord’s hands, Ryan was able to get me prepped and ready until the ambulance got there,” said Molton during the Galion City Council meeting Tuesday evening.

Because of Novik’s quick response, he was given the Galion Police Department’s Lifesaving Award by Police Chief Brian Saterfield.

Saterfield read several social media posts thanking the officer for helping save Molton’s life.

The next council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 23 at the municipal building.
