MANSFIELD — A Galion man is accused of attempting to arrange a date with a 13-year-old girl for sex.

Matthew K. Michaels, 58, 525 Sherman St., was arrested last Wednesday on charges of attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a third-degree felony, and importuning, a fifth-degree felony.

Michaels pleaded not guilty to both charges during his arraignment last Thursday. His bond was set at $100,000 and he is being held at the Richland County Jail. If he posts bond, he must be placed on electronic monitoring and is to have no contact with minors.

The Mansfield Police Department conducted the investigation with the assistance of the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force.

Detectives replied to a posting for sex on a social media website. Michaels responded to the inquiry by detectives and arranged to meet what he believed was a 13-year-old female. Mansfield police and task force officers arrested Michaels when he came to the arranged meeting place.
