The graduation season brings the news of scholarships and grant awards for many anxious high school seniors. Five Bucyrus High School seniors were awarded local scholarships and grants during the annual Crawford College Connection awards presentation May 15.

“These students worked exceptionally hard throughout their entire academic careers,” Secondary School Principal Dr. Mark Burke said. “These scholarships and grant awards are the result of their dedication to excellence.”

The Bucyrus High School seniors that received awards included; Claire Miller (In-as-much Circle of the International King’s Daughters), Antonia Ziegler (Bucyrus Moose Lodge 669 Grant), Ashley Keener (“Dream Big” award in honor of Bob and Sandy Laipply), Hannah Gully (ABC Grant in honor of Mrs. Linda Anderson) and Mackenzie Whitmore (Grant in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Holtshouse). All grants awarded are valued at $1,000.

Jacob Bloomfield and Claire Miller were also recognized during a special breakfast hosted by United Bank. The event was held in the Community Room at Bucyrus Community Hospital, and showcased the top students from all school districts in Crawford County.

“Anytime our students are awarded scholarship or grant monies, it reflects positively on their parents and our staff,” Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said. “The students that received these awards and accolades are Bucyrus’ best and brightest, and I’m excited to see what the next chapter of their lives holds for each one.”
