Several people came to Public Square in Galion at noon on Thursday to honor National Day of Prayer.

The Galion Ministerial Association hosted the event that brought prayer and comfort to the downtown area.

Tammy Crabtree of Ohio Heartland Community Action said a prayer for families in the community.

“It all starts at home with the family. Children watch us. We must teach them love and respect,” Crabtree said.

Fred McCumber of Galion City Schools prayed for our school systems and the students they serve.

“Teachers teach through their example,” said McCumber, pointing out that this week is Teacher Appreciation Week. “If you see a teacher, thank them.”

Chris Pugh, former editor of the Galion Inquirer, prayed for the media.

“Prayer is something we should do every day,” Pugh said. “We pray for the freedoms that we have, including the freedom of the press.”

Joe Kleinknecht of the Galion-Crestline Area Chamber of Commerce prayed that God will watch over local businesses to produce profit and provide employment.

“Please bless our city to be fruitful,” Kleinknecht said.

Rev. Matthew Wheeler of First Lutheran Church prayed for the well-being of creation and for government while Mike Saurers of the Galion Fire Department prayed for local emergencies services.

“We pray for our rescue workers to help others and save lives and for our dispatchers to help others stay calm and get the help they need,” Saurers said.

U.S. Navy veteran Russell Henkel prayed for our military.

“We pray for all of the men and women who have served this nation,” Henkel said.

Rev. Anne Pairan of Trinity Lutheran Church said that the Galion Ministerial Association prays every month for all of the congregations of Galion.

“As of 2013, there were 10,000 people living in the Galion area with 44 congregations to pray for,” Pairan said. “We pray for the unity of our community. May we be one, one in Your hand.”
