Crestline City Council met yesterday evening. During the meeting, council members approved four pieces of “emergency” legislation and heard citizen input as well as reports from city officials and the Community Development Team.

Councilman Ben Hocker was absent; his absence was unanimously approved by the remainder of the council.

After the approval of the minutes of the May 24 council meeting and the approval of the agenda, two citizens addressed council.

Ron Higby of Bucyrus invited the council to take part in the second annual ‘Lest We Forget’ concert, to be held on September 11 at the Crawford County fairgrounds. Higby described last year’s event and said he would like to see “more of a response from Crestline” this year as the event honors “the people who take care of us every day.”

Kim Ross-Polito, editor of the Crestline Advocate asked members of council to endorse officially the criminal justice services levy that will be on the August 3 ballot for county residents. Later in the meeting, council entertained and unanimously approved just such an endorsement.

Assistant Safety Service Director Marc Milliron reported that issues with a retaining pond at Cedar Mill Estates subdivision, which had been pointed out in 2002 by Gene Toy when he held Milliron’s position, have been resolved since Sept. 2009 by the subdivision owner. Milliron said that Dugan, the owner, has put in a culvert and increased the pond’s banks -- and that the planning commission has approved the changes.

Milliron informed that due to the efforts of the 3C Rail Committee, Crestline is “in there, too, right along with Galion and Shelby” as a prospective stop on the proposed passenger railway.
