Holiday open house Dec. 3 at Galion Public Library

0

GALION — Galion Public Library is planning a Polynesian Island Holiday Open House on Dec. 3, from 1-3 p.m., during the Come Home to Galion celebration.

There will be carriage and wagon rides by Pine Acres Carriage Service (co-sponsored by Galion Building & Loan, Galion Historical Society, Come Home to Galion). The carriages will travel in a loop between the library and Brownella Cottage, where the Galion Historical Society also will be having an open house, starting at 1 p.m.

Enjoy the song and dance of the islands during the celebration. There will be traditional Polynesian Island Hula dancing starting at 1 p.m. by Hula Fusion. Island Jeff will provide island steel pan drum music from 2-3 p.m.

Everyone who attends the open house will receive a free door prize ticket for either an ASUS 10.1 inch Touch Chromebook Flip or an Xbox 1S Console – Minecraft Bundle. Make sure to grab a ticket at either door when you first enter the library.

Refreshments will include hundreds of cookies baked by three different local bakers. There also will be delicious island punch.

Entries to a gingerbread house contest will be on display for public viewing. Judges will award first- and second-place prizes for each category, and a grand prize for “Best in Show” will be determined by popular vote.

There will be lots of activities for kids, including two special story times in the Children’s Room, at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Crafts, with an island theme, will be available for children of all ages and their parents in the Community Room for the duration of the open house.

There will be a chance to donate to the library’s Giving Tree. The library staff has made its “wish list” for materials and/or supplies for the library to use to serve the community. These requests will be placed on the tree in the lobby for patrons to view. Those who take and fill a request will be considered “Angels” by the staff.

There also will be a “12 Days of Christmas” raffle that includes an impressive array of hand crafted items and more. Tickets go on sale on Nov. 23 and will be available at the library’s Main Desk: a dollar buys one ticket for the prize drawing of your choice; $5 buys six tickets. Come to the library’s lobby on Nov. 23 — and throughout the Open House, up until the drawings Dec. 21 — to see the raffle items on display.

There also will be Creative Crafters table in which talented individuals will display hand-made items for the public to admire and buy.
