Practice safety while ice fishing

The recent cold snap finally produced enough frigid temperatures to harden the local ponds and lakes giving ice fishermen a long awaited chance to try their luck. However, as the temperatures drop, it is important to remember during those chilly adventures that “No Ice is Safe Ice.” While frozen lakes, ponds, and rivers may be alluring to outdoor explorers, ice is never 100% safe and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources urges outdoor enthusiasts to stay alert.

Ohio’s deer gun harvest close to past years

Ohio’s weeklong white-tailed deer gun hunting season concluded on Sunday, Dec. 3, with hunters taking 70,118 deer, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife. Last year, hunters took 71,931 deer during the gun week. The three-year average for deer harvest during the seven-day gun season is 71,322. An additional weekend of deer gun hunting will happen on Dec. 16-17.

Ohio’s popular white-tailed deer gun hunting season begins this week, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife. The weeklong gun season, open to all hunters, kicks off Monday, Nov. 27 and runs until Sunday, Dec. 3. The deer gun weekend is Dec. 16-17.

Ohio’s archery hunters have taken 51,360 white-tailed deer through Sunday, Nov. 5, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife. The average bow harvest through the first weekend of November over the past three years is 50,939 deer. Through the first seven weekends of 2022, hunters checked 48,577 deer.
