Daughters of Union Veterans
The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Tent 91, Galion, met for its regular meeting Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the home of Lois Rinehart. The meeting was opened in regular form with President, Cathy Brown, in charge.
Communications included: Ohio department General Orders #3, Department Credentials and an invitation to participate in the Memorial Day Parade in Galion.
Relief report consisted of: 5 flowers for deceased, 2 flowers for ill, 46 personal visits, 185 cheer cards sent and 490 volunteer hours.
Final plans were made for our responsibilities at the Ohio Department Convention June 20-22. Out tent is in charge of the Friday evening Campfire.
It was reported that we received the check from the Crawford County Veterans Council. We are planning to reset two more Veteran’s headstones at the Fairview Cemetery in Galion, Ohio.
Cathy Brown will be in charge of decorating the gravesites of Mary Hetter Keis Family and the Veteran’s we have reset for Memorial Day.
The delegate to the Ohio Department Convention for Tent 91 is Kary McCourt, with alternate being Linda Sidell.
The talk given by Cathy Brown to the 5th grades at Galion Middle School went very well. The students seemed very interested in the Civil War.
For the Good of the Order, an article titled “Why Are Coins Left on Tombstones?” was read. Mystery gift was won by Marilyn Sipes. Marilyn also served refreshments.
Next meeting will be held June 3, with Melanie Baker serving as hostess.
