Scott and Lori Murphy along with Boy Scout Troop 304 and sponsoring organization American Legion Post 243 proudly announce that Cody M. Murphy, a sophomore at Galion High School, has earned the prestigious award of Eagle Scout.
Cody a second generation Eagle Scout earned his rank on June 26, 2013. Cody joins an elite group of young men who have earned the Eagle rank. The first Eagle was awarded in 1912 and since then less than 2 percent of Scouts ever achieve Scouting’s highest honor. This elite brotherhood includes many famous people from astronauts to U.S. Presidents, business leaders to military generals making The Boy Scouts of America one of the nations largest and most prominent value based organization. It’s programs are designed to build character and leadership capabilities, teach principles of active citizenship and encourage personal fitness.
Cody has been active in scouts since he signed up for Cub Scouts when he was in First Grade going on to earn the Arrow of Light, the highest rank in Cub Scouts, in 2009. Since going into Boy Scouts Cody has been very active in teaching his skills to the younger scouts by serving as a Den Chief for the Cub Scouts. Since entering the troop Cody has held several Positions of Responsibility including Den Chief, Patrol Leader, Instructor, and is currently serving as Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. Cody has earned many special awards on his journey including National Outdoor Award, BSA Lifeguarding, Third place Scout of the Year, and his Paul Bunyan. Along with these awards he has also put in over 500 hours in service.
Cody’s Eagle Project was to build 10 Picnic Tables for Camp Michael in Bucyrus, Ohio. He accomplished this with the help of friends, family, fellow scouts, and funding coming from various businesses, friends and family.
In closing Cody would like to give a big thanks to all that helped him achieve his goals, thank all those who travelled great distances from Michigan to Utah, and thank all local friends and family for sharing and celebrating his accomplishments. (photo and story submitted)
