Chamber Holiday Open House & Auction Dec. 5
The Galion-Crestline Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to its annual Holiday Open House & Auction on Thursday, Dec. 5. It will be held at the St. Joe’s Activity Center beginning at 5 p.m. The event is open to chamber members and their guests.

Tom Batiuk Book Signing Dec. 6
Main Street Books is thrilled to announce a talk and book signing by Tom Batiuk, the creator of Funky Winkerbean on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 6-8pm. Batiuk visited last holiday season when Volume One was released and gave a talk on growing up in Akron and the genesis of the comic. This year he will discuss Lisa’s Story, a storyline that follows a character with breast cancer, and the Lisa’s Legacy Fund.

ASHLAND — The 34th annual Ashland University Spectrum Series begins by traveling back in time to the 19th century with the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra presenting its holiday program titled “’Round the Christmas Tree” on Friday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Hugo Young Theatre.

The Gorman Nature Center will be hosting its monthly informal night sky watch on Friday, December 6th, at 7:00 pm. Join us as we explore the night sky with telescopes for planets, stars and galaxies. The Galion Historical Society is pleased to announce our Saturday, December 7th Christmas at the Cottage and Historic Grace Church open house from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Cans for Canines Dec. 7
Cans for Canines and Felines will be collecting for the Crawford County Humane society Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Geyers, inside and out. Items of the month are dog and cat treats and dog and cat toys. Certificates for spay and neutering will be available until Dec. 31 at the shelter 3590 State Route 98, Bucyrus.
Holiday Open House at Galion Public Library Dec. 7
Galion Public Library, 123 N. Market St., Galion will again host its fun-filled Holiday Open House in conjunction with the community’s “Come Home to Galion for the Holidays” celebration. This year’s GPL Open House will take place on Saturday, December 7th, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
Here’s what GPL has to offer at its Holiday Open House 2013: Carriage & Wagon Rides by Pine Acres Carriage Service [co-sponsored by Galion Building & Loan]~This year there will be an additional wagon and a new route for this established favorite: a loop between the library and Brownella Cottage, where the Galion Historical Society will also be holding an Open House starting at 1:00 pm. For the kids~ Special story times in the Children’s Room are planned, as well as crafts for children of all ages and their parents in the Community Room. Plus, “Bad Kitty” (from the books by Nick Bruel) will be mischeviously wandering through the whole event!
The Giving Tree~
Galion Public Library’s staff has made its “wish list” for materials and/or supplies for the library to use to serve the community. These requests will be placed on the tree in the lobby for patrons to view; those who take & fill a request will be considered “Angels” by the staff!
“12 Days of Christmas” Raffle~
An impressive array of gift baskets and more are up for grabs. Tickets are already on sale at the library’s Main Desk: one dollar buys one ticket for the prize drawing of your choice; five dollars buys six tickets. Come to the library’s lobby now (and throughout the Open House, up until the drawings on December 18th) to see the raffle items on display.
The North End Garden Club has agreed to return and provide their expertise in decorating the large east window and other areas of the library’s Main Floor with a fun holiday theme.

Again this year, this talented group will display its hand-made work for the public to admire and buy.
“Come Home to Galion for the Holidays” Ornament Scavenger Hunt~Pick up the first collectible ornament - featuring a photo of the library - during the GPL Open House before you go out to gather the others and experience the fun at the Uptowne festivities, culminating in the Santa Parade at 4:30. Look for the GPL staff in the parade; they will be in the fancy carriage!

What’s Up Duck Dec. 7
The Gorman Nature Center will offer their public “Annual Waterfowl Watch” at local reservoirs on Saturday, December 7th, at 10:00 am.. This is a good opportunity for both new and experienced birders to learn what species are migrating through the area. Dress for the weather. Spotting scopes will be provided. Meet at Gorman Nature Center.

Humane Society Photos with Santa Fundraiser Dec. 7
The Humane Society of Morrow County is sponsoring its annual Photos with Santa fundraiser event at the Mt. Gilead Fire Station on Saturday December 7 from 10am to 5pm and Sunday December 8 from 1pm to 5pm. The Mt. Gilead Fire Station is located behind the Municipal Building at 72 West High Street. Both pet and family photos can be taken with or without Santa. The cost of a CD with a variety of photos is $15. No Christmas cards or printed and framed photos will be created at this event. You may use the CD to create your own cards and portraits or may take the CD to a photo shop or full-service drug store for processing. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Morrow County.
Holiday Memorial Services Dec. 7
The public is invited to a Holiday Memorial Program. This service is held in memory of those who have died during the past 12 months. Anyone who has lost a loved one either locally or out of the area is welcome to attend. The service in Crestline will be held Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the Mark A Schneider Funeral Home, 223 West Main Street. RSVP at 419-683-2020.

The 59th Performance of Handel’s Messiah Dec. 8
The Galion Community Chorus and Orchestra will perform Handel’s Messiah Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. at First United Church of Christ, 248 Harding Way West, Galion.
Spaghetti Dinner Dec. 8
First Lutheran Church, 127 S. Columbus Street, Galion, will host an all you can eat Spaghetti Dinner Sunday, Dec. 8 from noon until 2 p.m. There will be a silent auction and raffles until 3 p.m. Proceeds will help support our weekly food ministries.
Worldwide Candle Lighting Event Dec. 8
ASHLAND – A Worldwide Candle Lighting Event is set for Sunday, December 8 at 7 p.m. at the Ashland Brethren in Christ Church, 2750 Mifflin Ave. Parents who have lost a child at any age are welcome to attend. Music will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Held for one hour in every time zone, the Worldwide Candle Lighting Event creates a 24-hour wave of light that encircles the globe to honor and remember children who have died, helping bereaved families around the world share their loss and remember their children. Gifts, either wrapped or unwrapped, may be left by parents at this event. The gifts will be donated to a charity. Parents may also bring a framed picture of their child to display during the service. The framed picture will be returned at the end of the Worldwide Candle Lighting Event. The event is supported by the Hospice of North Central Ohio and its Parents Grief Group. The group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Hospice House, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland.

Current Job & Family Services medical cards and many other insurance cards will be accepted and MUST be provided at time of service. Those with multiple insurance carriers must bring all cards. Immunizations for children 18 years old and younger will not be denied due to the inability to pay.

Hibernation Vacation Dec. 10
Join Crawford Park District Volunteer Mandi Fruth at the Lowe-Volk Nature Center on Dec. 10 to explore the methods, motivations and mechanics of animal hibernation. Kids will love creating both hibernation nests and animals to survive the winter as they learn about this interesting behavior. We will read a book that highlights the preparation that goes into this activity, as the kids gain a deeper understanding of the animals sleeping just outside their homes this season. CRESTLINE—The Crestline Public Library invites the public to it’s annual Christmas Open House, December 12, 6:30-7:30 pm. Each year the Crestline Patio Gardeners decorate the library for the holidays. The flute trio, Trillium Winds, will entertain and refreshments will be served.

The Buckeye Central Board of Education will hold their next monthly board meeting on Thursday, December 12 at Buckeye Central Local School at 938 South Kibler Street, New Washington in the Multi-Purpose Room. The Sandstone Story Dec. 14
Study with Crawford Park District Naturalist Chris Rothhaar one of the few major sandstone outcroppings along this stretch of the Sandusky that will reveal the results of these natural processes. Learn of the many natural processes that buildup and break down the most prolific rock along the stretch of the Sandusky River that flows through Lowe-Volk Park. Meet Crawford Park District Naturalsit Warren Uxley at Sears Woods State Nature Preserve on Dec. 15 at 2 p.m., and find out what is happening to bird populations this year. Each winter brings with it a new set of challenges. Food supplies vary from year to year and of course the weather patterns play a key role in determining the makeup of winter bird communities. Galion Concert Series Opening Concert Dec. 22
The Lutheran Churches of Galion announced today the first Galion Concert, featuring local and area talent. This first concert will be held Sunday, December 22, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 127 S. Columbus Street, Galion, Ohio. This concert will celebrate the sounds of the season with vocal and instrumental works.
The concert will feature local and area residents sharing their talents. “With the recent production of “Les Miserables” at the Galion Community Theater, we were again reminded of the variety, quality and depth of musical talent in our community. There is a wealth of quality musicians in our area,” said Brian Treisch, one of the local organizers of the event who served as orchestra director for “Les Miserables”. “We felt that this talent should be showcased in other venues. That was the basis for developing this performance series.”
The first Galion Concert performance will feature a wide range of holiday music in a fast paced program. Organ and piano solos, brass ensembles, vocal solos are all being planned for this event.
