‘Spelling Bee’ Musical Comedy coming to Galion

November 29, 2013

GALION—The Crawford Theatre Company of Bucyrus will present the new musical comedy, ‘The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.’ Show dates are set for 8pm on December 6, 7 and 2pm on December 8. Performances will take place at the Galion Theater, 127 Harding Way West, Galion, OH.

Six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.

‘The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’ is a tale of overachievers’ angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. The show’s Tony Award winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.

The cast includes: Mary Faulds (Galion) as Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre, Matt Feck (Bucyrus) as Leaf Coneybear, Betsy Gerhart (Bucyrus) as Rona Lisa Peretti, Tom Griffin (Upper Sandusky) as Douglas Panch, Jason Kempf (Galion) as William Barfee, Jim Messenger (Mount Vernon) as Mitch Mahoney, Hannah Shipman (Edison) as Olive Ostrovsky, Scott Smith (Bucyrus) as Chip Tolentino, and Cheryl Watkins (Galion)as Marcy Park. Betsy Gerhart also serves as director.
