County sports HoF induction banquet scheduled

The Craw­ford County Sports Hall of Fame will induct its 2012 Class on Sun­day, March 17 at the VFW Post #8999, 1325 E. Mans­field St., Bucyrus.

The evening will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m. Din­ner will fol­low at 6 p.m. and the induc­tion pro­gram is slated for 7 p.m.

Cost of a ticket is $20. Tick­ets are on sale now at the Crest­line Advo­cate, the Bucyrus Tele­graph Forum and all six high school ath­letic depart­ments in Craw­ford County, or by call­ing C. Hel­bert, 419–571-6284.

The 2012 class includes Bob Miller of Crest­line, the late Jerry Har­baugh of Crest­line, Del­bert Koons of Holmes-Liberty, the late Thomas W. Thatcher of Sul­phur Springs, Jim Shuck of Colonel Craw­ford, and the 1985 Divi­sion II state cham­pi­onship Galion High School foot­ball team coached by Lee Owens.

The Craw­ford County Sports Hall of Fame is a non-profit orga­ni­za­tion cre­ated in 2006 to honor past ath­letes, coaches and those who sup­port Craw­ford County ath­let­ics. Its pur­pose is to encour­age par­tic­i­pa­tion in high school ath­let­ics and to rec­og­nize out­stand­ing achieve­ments in the field of sports. It is also in the process of cre­at­ing schol­ar­ships to attend col­lege, for county high school athletes.

The Craw­ford County Sports Hall of Fame is also inter­ested in receiv­ing nom­i­na­tions for future inductees. Any­one know­ing of a wor­thy recip­i­ent should con­tact the CCSHOF either by writ­ing to our address or con­tact­ing C. Hel­bert, secretary.
