Wynford dumps Lady Tigers, 54-39

HOLMES TOWNSHIP — The Lady Tigers couldn’t get untracked and were slapped with a 54–39 loss by the hands of the Wyn­ford Lady Roy­als here Tues­day night in the W.R. Don­nen­wirth Gymnasium.

Wyn­ford dealt the Orange-and-Blue their sev­enth set­back in eight North Cen­tral Con­fer­ence games this sea­son and their ninth defeat over­all in 14 match-ups. The Lady Roy­als now stand at 10–5 over­all and a solid 6–1 in the NCC.

The hosts led 14–8 and 24–14 at the end of the first two quar­ters, respec­tively. The Lady Tigers nar­rowed the deficit to eight points by the end of the third at 36–28. But, Wyn­ford pulled away in the last stanza, outscor­ing Galion 18–11.

“We just never got going,” a dejected Galion head coach Jen Rich said. “We caved under pres­sure at the begin­ning and dug a hole we couldn’t get out of.” She added, “We’ll keep work­ing. We’re not gonna give up.”

The win­ners con­nected on 18 2-pointers, a trio of 3-pointers and 9-of-14 free throws. Galion net­ted 15 2-pointers, one trey and was 6-for-9 at the char­ity stripe.

Scor­ing for Galion were Pey­ton Beachy with 13 points, Bai­ley Ruhe, 12; Ramonda Dorsey and Kelly Mann, 6 apiece; and Calli Bauer, 2.

Brenna Quinn tal­lied a game-high 18 points for the vic­tors. Ellie Rich­mond added 11.

The junior var­sity Lady Tigers con­tin­ued their fine sea­son win­ning 44–37 and jack­ing their record up to 9–4. Raven Craw­ford was the big gun in the vic­tory with 21 points.

Galion is at Riverdale on Sat­ur­day afternoon.
