Wynford dumps Lady Tigers, 54-39

HOLMES TOWNSHIP — The Lady Tigers couldn’t get untracked and were slapped with a 54–39 loss by the hands of the Wynford Lady Royals here Tuesday night in the W.R. Donnenwirth Gymnasium.
Wynford dealt the Orange-and-Blue their seventh setback in eight North Central Conference games this season and their ninth defeat overall in 14 match-ups. The Lady Royals now stand at 10–5 overall and a solid 6–1 in the NCC.
The hosts led 14–8 and 24–14 at the end of the first two quarters, respectively. The Lady Tigers narrowed the deficit to eight points by the end of the third at 36–28. But, Wynford pulled away in the last stanza, outscoring Galion 18–11.
“We just never got going,” a dejected Galion head coach Jen Rich said. “We caved under pressure at the beginning and dug a hole we couldn’t get out of.” She added, “We’ll keep working. We’re not gonna give up.”
The winners connected on 18 2-pointers, a trio of 3-pointers and 9-of-14 free throws. Galion netted 15 2-pointers, one trey and was 6-for-9 at the charity stripe.
Scoring for Galion were Peyton Beachy with 13 points, Bailey Ruhe, 12; Ramonda Dorsey and Kelly Mann, 6 apiece; and Calli Bauer, 2.
Brenna Quinn tallied a game-high 18 points for the victors. Ellie Richmond added 11.
The junior varsity Lady Tigers continued their fine season winning 44–37 and jacking their record up to 9–4. Raven Crawford was the big gun in the victory with 21 points.
