This after­noon, Ryan Tan­ner, age 36 of Galion, was arrested on a war­rant for Sex­ual Bat­tery, a Felony of the 3rd degree. Mr. Tan­ner has served Galion City Schools as a Social Stud­ies Teacher and Instruc­tor of our Career Based Inter­ven­tion Pro­grams since 2008. Mr. Tan­ner is being charged with engag­ing in inap­pro­pri­ate sex­ual con­duct with a stu­dent. The involve­ment was to have occurred at the end of 2011 through 2012. Mr. Tan­ner is cur­rently being held at the Craw­ford County Jail await­ing an arraign­ment on the charges.

I received a phone call sug­gest­ing Mr. Tan­ner had engaged in inap­pro­pri­ate actions with stu­dents. I imme­di­ately began invest­ing the accu­sa­tions. Upon deter­min­ing there was sub­stance to the accu­sa­tion, Mr. Tan­ner was placed on Admin­is­tra­tive Leave on Jan­u­ary 23, 2013. Through full coop­er­a­tion with the Galion Police Depart­ment, a thor­ough inves­ti­ga­tion resulted in charges being filed with the Craw­ford County Prosecutor’s Office.

Obvi­ously this is a regret­table set of cir­cum­stances and I want the com­mu­nity to know we are com­mit­ted to the safety and well-being of all students.
