Swimmers compete at Tiffin
TIFFIN — The tankers competed in a four-school, dual meet format competition here last Saturday.
In girls’ action, the Lady Tigers sank Tiffin Calvert 111–58, toppled Upper Sandusky 119–85, and was edged out by host Tiffin Columbian 99–97.
Boys’ competition had the Tigers smothering Tiffin Calvert 84–8, losing to Tiffin Columbian 98–64, and falling to Upper Sandusky 80–72.
“We went to this meet without six swimmers,” noted Galion head coach Ted Temple. “Four were taking ACTs, two were doing holiday things with family. The swimmers did pretty good.”
Top performers for the Lady Tigers were: Samantha Altstadt, first in the 200 free at 2:26.87; plus the victorious 400 free relay squad of Becca Rigdon, Molly Barker, Kennedy Gregg and Altstadt with a mark of 4:32.51 — 26 seconds fast than the runnerup squad.
Zane Ekin had a nice day for the Galion boys. The junior took the top spot in the 200 IM at 2:11.89; the 100 fly at 56.74; and swam a leg on the victorious 400 free relay squad that also consisted of Evan Zumbro, John Finch and Logan Amos. Their time was 4:13.96. Amos also picked up winner’s points in the 100 free with a clocking of 1:01.77.
