Friday Night Accident on 598

On 12-21-2012 at 1536 hrs, Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash on SR 598 south of Crest­line Rd. Chelsey Brady, age 19, Galion OH was south­bound on SR 598, in a 2006 Ford Ranger. Rod­ney Barker, age 39, Galion OH, was north­bound on SR 598 in a 2011 Peter­bilt semi. Brady lost con­trol on the snow cov­ered road­way and went left of cen­ter, strik­ing the diesel tank on Barker’s semi. Barker stopped the semi along the side of the road­way. Brady came to rest in the road­way fac­ing west in the north­bound lane. No injuries were reported at the scene. Jef­fer­son Town­ship Fire Depart­ment and ODOT were on scene to con­tain the fuel spill, using oil dry and sand to absorb the diesel fuel. K&D was called to the scene to clean up the haz­ardous mate­r­ial. Craw­ford County EMA Direc­tor, Tim Flock, was on scene to over­see the clean up.

Brady’s vehi­cle sus­tained heavy front-end dam­age and was towed from the scene by Fair­price Tow­ing. Barker’s semi was towed from the scene by Ronk’s tow­ing. Brady was issued a cita­tion fro fail­ure to con­trol. The clean up took sev­eral hours and traf­fic was detoured.
