Search Warrants Served/Marijuana Seizure
On Thursday November 19th, 2012 the METRICH Drug Task Force, with the assistance of the US Postal Inspectors, Mansfield Police Department, Ohio Highway Patrol, and the Ashland Police Department served search warrants at 804 Greenfield Drive and 806 Greenfield Drive. METRICH detectives were investigating the trafficking of large amounts of suspected medical marijuana from California to the Mansfield area.
Lt. Ken Coontz stated detectives conducted a controlled delivery to 354 Wayne Street where Layton Dawes was arrested. Detectives then served a search warrant at Mr. Dawes’ residence at 806 Greenfield Drive. Detectives seized approximately 276 pounds (125 kilos) of marijuana from his residence.
Detectives also identified Ronnie Perry as part of the marijuana trafficking ring. A search warrant was served at Mr. Perry’s residence at 804 Greenfield Drive. Detectives seized approximately 170 pounds of marijuana (77 kilos) and $50,000 in cash from his residence. Three vehicles were also seized during the search warrants. Both of the search warrants were signed by the Honorable Judge Frank Ardis. Lt. Ken Coontz stated METRICH detectives also arrested Ronnie Perry on June 18th, 2012 during another controlled delivery of approximately 20 pounds of marijuana at a Hedges Street address.
Sgt. Keith Porch stated that the success of this investigation was due in part to multi-agency cooperation and dedicated detectives. Citizens are encouraged to be proactive by reporting suspected drug activity. Further charges may be pending.
