J.B. Shuck signs with Los Angeles Angels
J.B. Shuck — a 2005 Galion High School graduate who has spent the past 5 seasons as an outfielder in the Houston Astros’ organization — signed a one-year minor league contract deal with the Los Angeles Angels today.
He was a free agent prior to the signing.
He will be in their upcoming spring training camp, vying for a spot on the MLB roster.
J.B. spent all of this past season on Houston’s Class AAA Oklahoma City Redhawks squad where he hit .298. In 5 minor league seasons he has a career batting average of .301.
The 25-year-old played 37 major league games in 2011 for the Astros, hitting .272.
“He’s got a job,” Jack Shuck, J.B.‘s father said. “The Angels are really the only team that came after him. They only have five guys in the outfield and only one is a left-hander. They like his speed and defense.”
