Nov. 15 was an emotional day for Ellen Buehrer filled with hugs, laughter and tears. An open house was held for the Children’s Librarian at the Galion Public Library that evening, as a farewell to her before her last day of working on Nov. 16.
She celebrated with her husband, Sam, staff members, the Library Board, friends and patrons. Cake, cookies and punch were provided as Buehrer said her thank yous and goodbyes, shared memories and received cards and gifts.
She began working at GPL in 1998, and has been the children’s librarian since 2002. She left her post because she and Sam are moving to Toledo next year.
“I still don’t feel like it’s going to happen,” Buehrer said about leaving. “This is the best job I’ve ever had.” She will miss the staff, watching people grow up and getting them excited about books, playing Sardines at the library, and the after-hours Christmas parties.
“She is the best. We will miss her so much and the library will never be the same,” Library Director Vicki Eckenrod said of Buehrer.
She added that the library is still looking for replacement. Over 70 applications were submitted and the interview process is ongoing.
