The Galion Tigers (9–1) will travel to Richwood on Friday to take on the North Union Wildcats (10–0) in the opening round of the Division IV football playoffs.
Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
North Union is a member of the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference, the league Galion will be joining in two years.
“They are a Wing-T power team that wants to run the ball first,” Galion head coach Chris Hawkins said of the Wildcats. “Personnel-wise, they are a lot like us, although a little bigger. They have a lot of speed on both sides of ball, just like we do.”
This marks the fifth time in program history the Tigers have advanced to the post-season. They have a 4–3 overall mark, with all four wins coming in the 1985 Division II state championship season. The locals posted a perfect 14–0 mark that year. Since then, the Orange-and-Blue have lost first-round games in 1986, ’89 and 2009.
“Our first two goals every year are to win an outright league championship and to make the playoffs,” Hawkins stated. “We’ve put check marks next to those. Our third goal is now to win the first playoff game in 27 years. Every Saturday we want to make a new goal.”
