St. Theodore House closing soon

Rachel Mendell — Staff
The St. Theodore House will officially close its doors Oct. 31 at midnight.

As of Oct. 31 at midnight the St. Theodore House on Portland Way South will be officially closed and the Monastic Brotherhood of St. Theodore dissolved, according to an official release posted on the monastery website :http://www.st theodoremonks.oh.goarch.org/.) The home will move into foreclosure.

This decision came about due to the conviction of Father Nicholas, superior of the monastery. Each of the resident monks of the house will seek shelter with family or friends or seek entrance to a monastery of the Holy Orthodox Church. The decision to disband came after a conference call with church officials Oct. 15

Father Nicholas Hughes was arrested Sept. 19 for sexual solicitation of minors. He pled guilty of all charges and is in jail.

Anyone who may have questions or information about this issue is asked to contact the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh at 412–621-5529.

In the midst of apparent betrayal and of the deep shadow now cast over our lives by the powers of darkness, shadows that seek to lead us onto the ship-destroying rocks of anger, despair, or vengeance, let us remember that we are neither abandoned by God, nor by those who share our confusion and pain, yet seek through it all, to live in faith and walk in the light of Christ, which cannot be overcome by the darkness (John 1:5)” – Schema-monk Theodore on behalf of The Monastic Brotherhood
