Michael Jokerst

Michael Jok­erst of Colum­bus, Ohio passed away peace­fully on Octo­ber 3, 2012 at home, sur­rounded by his fam­ily. He had been fight­ing pan­cre­atic can­cer for over a year.

He was a native of Galion, Ohio, the son of Ray­mond and Bar­bara Jok­erst. He is a 1975 grad­u­ate of Galion High School.

He mar­ried Cecelia (Richard­son) at Immac­u­late Con­cep­tion Church in Clin­tonville. He is sur­vived by his wife, his son Andrew and daugh­ter Christina. He is also sur­vived by his mother, broth­ers Thomas (Beth) of Ver­sailles, Ohio; Patrick of Galion; Steven (Kate) of West­er­ville, Ohio; David of Galion. Pre­ced­ing him in death are his father and sis­ter Anna Marie.

Mike enjoyed spend­ing time with his fam­ily and friends, relax­ing at Lake Erie, and had recently retired from Nation­wide Insur­ance and FocusCFO.

He was a grad­u­ate of The Ohio State Uni­ver­sity and an avid Buck­eyes and Browns fan. Mike spent many years of vol­un­tary com­mu­nity ser­vice with sev­eral orga­ni­za­tions across the years: Junior Achieve­ment, The Han­nah Neil Cen­ter, Colum­bus Rotary, Ground­Work Group, Starr Com­mon­wealth, Wor­thing­ton Com­mu­nity for Schools, and World of Chil­dren Gov­ern­ing Board.

A memo­r­ial mass will be held Sat­ur­day, Octo­ber 6 at 10:00 AMat St. Peter Catholic Church on 6899 Smoky Row Rd. in Colum­bus. Friends may visit the fam­ily at 9:30 AM prior to the mass. At his request, his body has been­do­nated to Ohio Uni­ver­sity in Athens, Ohio for research and edu­ca­tion.
