Donald R. Gardner

Don­ald R. Gard­ner, 81, of Bucyrus passed away on Thurs­day at home, his death was unex­pected. Don was born March 1, 1931 in Ash­ley, OH to the late Nel­son and Lena (Hob­son) Gard­ner. He was mar­ried Oct. 21, 1950 to Jacque­line Elaine (Sipes) Gard­ner who sur­vives. In addi­tion to his par­ents, he was pre­ceded in death by daugh­ter and son in law Car­ole Carmel and her hus­band Richard, 5 broth­ers, and 3 sisters.

Don is also sur­vived by son Don­ald (Angie) Gard­ner of York, SC; grand­chil­dren Crista (Justin) Tinch, Galion; Dylan (Mar­i­an­gela) Gard­ner, Arling­ton, VA; Levi Gard­ner, York, SC; great grand­chil­dren Riley and Alexa Tinch; brother Phillip (Joan) Gard­ner of Iberia; sis­ter Mar­jorie Mar­tin of Galion; sis­ter in laws June Gard­ner and Char­lotte Gard­ner both of Galion; and spe­cial niece and nephews Janet Tupps of Galion, Dick Reeder of Bucyrus and Bob Gard­ner of Galion.

Don retired in 1984 from Swan after 35 years. He was a grad­u­ate of Galion H.S. Class of 1949 and a mem­ber of Com­mu­nity Chris­t­ian Church in Galion. Don was a Vet­eran of both the U.S. Navy and Army and was a Life Mem­ber of Amer­i­can Legion Post 181 where he served on the mil­i­tary honor guard, and a life mem­ber of the Amvets Post #27 and VFW Post 4329 of Galion. Don enjoyed play­ing golf and work­ing in his yard, he was a long­time mem­ber of Val­ley View.

Funeral Ser­vices will be held on Tues­day at 11:00 am in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with Dr. Daniel A. Turner offi­ci­at­ing, bur­ial will fol­low in Iberia Ceme­tery with mil­i­tary hon­ors pro­vided by the Am. Legion Post 181. Friends may call at the funeral home on Mon­day evening from 7–8 pm. The fam­ily sug­gests memo­ri­als be made to the Comm. Chris­t­ian Church or the Amer­i­can Legion and expres­sions of sym­pa­thy may be left at munzpirnstill.com
