Buckeyes Periscope
COLUMBUS(AP) — What’s brewing with the 2012 Ohio State Buckeyes …
BUCKEYES BUZZ: Coach Urban Meyer said Monday Ohio State officials have sent a tape to the Big Ten office which appears to show a Michigan State player gouging at the eyes of Buckeyes defensive lineman Johnathan Hankins.
The short clip from Saturday’s game appears to show the Spartans’ Jack Allen or a teammate trying to thrust a gloved hand inside Hankins’ facemask. At the same time, Hankins is trying to get his fingers inside Allen’s facemask.
Meyer was asked about the video during his weekly news conference.
Ohio State suspended linebacker Robert Reynolds for one game after it was determined he tried to choke Wisconsin quarterback Jim Sorgi at the bottom of a pile during a 17–10 Badgers win on Oct. 11, 2003.
HE’S OFF THE TEAM: WR Tyrone Williams, known last year as T.Y. Williams, has been kicked off the team.
Meyer said on Monday that Williams’ departure was due to a “violation of team rules.”
“I’m disappointed with Tyrone’s dismissal,” Meyer said.
Asked if the 6-foot-6, 229-pound sophomore from East Cleveland Shaw HS might be permitted to return to the team, Meyer said, “He’s done.”
INJURY UPDATE: RB Jordan Hall has a partial tear of a ligament in his right knee and is doubtful for Saturday’s 8 p.m. game at Ohio Stadium against No. 21 Nebraska.
QUOTABLE: Meyer, asked how important the crowd would be against the Cornhuskers, replied: “(Ohio State AD) Gene Smith will buy them a game ball if we find a way to win this one.”
He then said he was just kidding.
