Craw­ford Soil and Water Oct. 10

The Craw­ford Soil and Water Con­ser­va­tion Dis­trict board meet­ing has been changed to 8:00 a.m. It is still on the sec­ond Wednes­day of each month.

The next meet­ing is Octo­ber 10, 2012 at 8:00 A.M.

Ama­teur Radio Club Oct. 10

Wednes­day, Oct. 10 the Craw­ford County Ama­teur Radio Club will hold it’s monthly meet­ing at the Galion Pub­lic Library at 6:30 p.m. in the down stairs meet­ing room. Pub­lic is welcome.

Free Pro­duce Mar­ket Oct. 11

Ohio Heart­land Com­mu­nity Action Com­mis­sion will be host­ing a free pro­duce mar­ket Thurs­day, Octo­ber 11 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in its park­ing lot at 124 Buehler Street in Galion. Cus­tomers must live in Craw­ford County and are required to sign an income eli­gi­bil­ity form and present photo iden­ti­fi­ca­tion. Make & Bake Bazaar & Auc­tion Oct. 11

The Com­mu­nity Chris­t­ian Church is host­ing a bazaar and auc­tion Thurs­day, Oct. 11 from 6–8:30 p.m.

Come join us for sloppy Joes and shred­ded chicken sand­wiches, chips, cook­ies and a drink. Make & Bake starts at 6 p.m. with a meal and items to pur­chase. Silen Auc­tion begins at 7 p.m.

The draw­ings for a full size (81x98) hand-made quilt called “Around the World and a can­vas hand paint­ing (40x52) called “Heaven’s Gate” will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Tick­ets will be avail­able for both items before the draw­ing at $1 a piece or $5 for six. You need not be present to win.

Com­mu­nity Chris­t­ian Church is located on State Route 19 W at Bid­dle Road, Galion.

How-To Be a Self-Published Author Work­shop at the Galion Pub­lic Library Oct. 11

After a very excit­ing pro­gram in Sep­tem­ber, the Galion Pub­lic Library is pleased to have Noel Lizotte back for a work­shop in Octo­ber. Join Noel on Thurs­day, Octo­ber 11th at 7:00 pm to learn the ins and outs of get­ting your work pub­lished. Whether you have recipes you want to make into a cook­book, poetry pub­lished into a book of poems, a com­pi­la­tion of short sto­ries, your mem­oirs, or a novel, Noel can help you make your dream come to life.

Dur­ing this work­shop, Noel will share her dream of being a self-published author with you and pro­vide you with her insight and tips along the way. This 45 minute pre­sen­ta­tion will take you through what Noel believes are the 3 main steps to get­ting published:

1) Defin­ing your dream, 2) Pick­ing the right pub­lisher for you and 3) Work­ing with your pub­lisher. Ques­tion and Answer time will fol­low the presentation.

Lis­ten, Learn, Lead with The Craw­ford Con­ver­sa­tion Oct. 12

Join us Octo­ber 12, 2012 as we wel­come inter­na­tional econ­o­mist Joan Lamm-Tennant. Dur­ing our very first Craw­ford Con­ver­sa­tion, Lamm-Tennant will share her insights and expe­ri­ence study­ing and advis­ing some of the world’s most suc­cess­ful cor­po­ra­tions on national and inter­na­tional eco­nom­ics. She’ll also demon­strate how those same insights can be applied to the Main Street econ­omy of Craw­ford County. The cost to attend is $20, which reserves your seat dur­ing the dis­cus­sion and also includes lunch. Seat­ing is lim­ited, so please make your reser­va­tions early.

Exper­i­men­tal Air­craft Asso­ci­a­tion to host Young Eagle Rally Oct. 13

The EAA Chap­ter 148, in con­juc­tion with local area pilots, will host the fall Young Eagle Rally on Sat­ur­day, Oct. 13, at Lahm Air­port, at the ter­mi­nal build­ing, in Mans­field. The rally pro­vides chil­dren from age 8 up to age 17 the oppor­tu­nity to take a plane ride at no cost. Local pilots donate their time, planes and expenses to pro­vide these rides.

The event begins at 10 a.m. and will con­clude at 1 p.m. It is done on a first-come-first-served basis. Each child must be accom­pa­nied by a guardian or par­ent who will need to sign a release.

The local EAA chap­ter is part of the National EAA orga­ni­za­tion and has as its pur­pose the fur­ther­ing of avi­a­tion in the local community.

Hill­billy Break­fast Oct. 13

Ash­land Fall Fes­ti­val Oct. 13–14

Wel­come to an inti­mate gath­er­ing of area artists who have cre­ated qual­ity art and craft pieces. The Ahs­land Fall Fes­ti­val will be Oct. 13–14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Held at the beau­ti­ful Brook­side West Park, in Ash­land, you can shop for jew­elry, water­col­ors, acrylic paint­ings, wood turn­ing, hand-stiched dolls, stained glass, and many oth­ers. You shouldn’t go hun­gry either as there will be ven­dors sell­ing good­ies like brats, ket­tle corn, fudge, and other sweet treats. Free pub­lic admis­sion and parkting.

Library Board Oct. 15

The Board of Trust­ess of the Galion Pub­lic Library will be meet­ing Mon­day, Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. in the Library’s Board Room.

Retired Teach­ers Oct. 15

The Craw­ford County Retired Teach­ers Asso­ci­a­tion will have a social get-together on Mon­day, Octo­ber 15, start­ing at 4:30 pm at BJ’s Restau­rant located at 741 Port­land Way South in Galion. There will be a buf­fet din­ner for $10.00. Mor­row County Hos­pi­tal Aux­il­iary Hol­i­day Bazaar Oct. 15

The Mor­row County Hos­pi­tal Aux­il­iary will hold their Hol­i­day Bazaar Mon­day, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. — 7 p.m. in the Mor­row County Hos­pi­tal lower level. They are offer­ing fall arrange­ments, needle­work, a raf­fle, gift shop, baked goods, hol­i­day crafts, books, plants, white ele­phants and mys­tery gifts for children.

All pro­ceeds to ben­e­fit patient care.

The Galion High School Class of 1951 will meet for lunch Thurs­day, Oct. 25, at noon at BJ’s Fam­ily Restaurant.

Fall Book Sale at the Galion Pub­lic Library Oct. 25–27

Friends of the Galion Library will hold their annual book sale at the library begin­ning with mem­bers only on Oct. 24th from 6–9 PM.

Pub­lic sale will be on Thurs­day, Oct. 25, from 9 AM to 8 PM, Fri­day, Oct. 26, from 9 AM to 6 PM, and Sat­ur­day, Oct. 27, from 9 AM to noon. Sat­ur­day will be a $1.00 a bag day.

Dona­tions of paper­back and hard­back books are still being accepted and appreciated.

All pro­ceeds go for projects of the library.

That Fatal Night

Hal­loween 2012, marks the 75th anniver­sary of the Bishop William Mont­gomery Browns pass­ing. Join the Galion His­tor­i­cal Soci­ety on Octo­ber 27th or 28th, as we tour through Brownella Cot­tage and “relive” that evening with char­ac­ters who will tell the story of Bish­ops pass­ing. There will be twists and turns along the way, with spe­cial pre­sen­ta­tions from Schnei­der Funeral Home and the Candi Bar in Galion! Please note this is NOT a haunted house, but rather a unique event that cap­tures the his­tory and para­nor­mal activ­i­ties that are VERY REAL at Brownella Cot­tage. You don’t want to miss it!

On Sat­ur­day, Octo­ber 27th & Sun­day, Octo­ber 28th, this event will begin at His­toric Grace Church located at 130 West Wal­nut St Galion. Tick­ets are $7.50 per per­son and time slots are set for 6:30, 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30 pm each evening. Space is lim­ited and tick­ets are already sell­ing fast. Novem­ber Pre­ven­tion Training

In Novem­ber, we would like to expand our com­mit­tees exper­tise in the field of pre­ven­tion. In doing so we wel­come, Albert Gay to present on the Strate­gic Pre­ven­tion Frame­work. The Strate­gic Pre­ven­tion Frame­work uses a five-step process known to pro­mote youth devel­op­ment, reduce risk-taking behav­iors, build assets and resilience, and pre­vent prob­lem behav­iors across the life span. The idea behind SPF is to use the find­ings from pub­lic health research along with evidence-based pre­ven­tion pro­grams to pro­mote resilience and decrease risk fac­tors in indi­vid­u­als, fam­i­lies and com­mu­ni­ties. Albert is a Cer­ti­fied Pre­ven­tion Spe­cial­ist with exten­sive expe­ri­ence in the SPF process. He will present a 2 hour work­shop on using this process as a way to approach the ongo­ing issues of opi­ate use in our community.

The Novem­ber work­shop will be held on Mon­day, Novem­ber 12th from 5:30 — 7:30 at the Bucyrus Library. A light din­ner will be avail­able begin­ning at 5:00 with the pro­gram begin­ning promptly at 5:30. Please let us know if you will be able to attend so that we may plan accordingly.

Brownella tours held Fri­days and Sundays

Through Oct. 28, tours of Brownella Cot­tage are being offered on Fri­days and Sun­days from 1 — 4 p.m. Tick­ets are $5 for adults, $3 for stu­dents and chil­dren 5 and under are free.

The North End Gar­den Club will meet Novem­ber 19, “The Wings of Angel Raphael — Leg­ends of Christ­mas Flow­ers,” pre­sented by Mary Ann Heim­lich. All NEGC meet­ings are sched­uled in the com­mu­nity room at Galion Pub­lic Library unless oth­er­wise noted, from 6:30 until 8 p.m.
