Riley O "Smokey" LaRue
Riley O. “Smokey” LaRue, 82, of Galion, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 at Mill Creek Nursing Center in Galion.
Born April 13, 1930 in Jamestown, Tenn., he was the son of the late William and Viann (Beaty) LaRue. He married Luella Mae (Sulser) LaRue on Apr. 2, 1949 who survives.
He was a member of South View Baptist Church and the Crawford County Coon Hunters. Smokey enjoyed hunting and trapping and was known as an avid wheeler-dealer.
He was previously a welder for the former Komatsu-Dresser in Galion and retired as a welder from the former Peabody-Galion after 34 years.
Surviving are his two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Ronald Schiefer of Iberia and Marilyn and Todd Wert of Lexington; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Steven LaRue of Mansfield, Mark and Rhonda LaRue of Iberia and Darin and Tayna LaRue of Caledonia; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Joe Roelle of Galion; several loving nieces and nephews and caring neighbors..
He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at South View Baptist Church where services will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, with Pastor Cliff Hartley officiating. Burial will be in Iberia Cemetery.
Arrangements are in the care of the Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion.
