The Lady Tigers of Galion High School and the Colonel Crawford boys ran their way to championships in the Crawford County Cross Country Meet held yesterday at Amann’s Reservoir.
Galion’s girls outscored Bucyrus and Wynford for their title. Only three of the six county high schools fielded complete teams. Buckeye Central, Colonel Crawford and Crestline did not. Galion had 27 points, Bucyrus, 45; and the Lady Royals, 48.
Justine Yunker — a sophomore at GHS — claimed bragging rights as the top female runner. Her time of 20:56.5 was nearly 24 seconds faster than that of runner-up Ellie Richmond of Wynford.
Lady Tigers also claimed the third, fourth and fifth place spots. Macy Johnson was third at 21:36.46; Sammy Gates took fourth with a 21:45.54; and Michaela Slone secured the fifth spot at 21:53.83. Sadie Willacker’s time of 24:30.17 was good enough for 14th place (18th actual placing) for the Orange-and-Blue.
Yunker, Johnson, Slone, Gates and Slone each received All-County status for their performances. The top 7 runners in each race were so honored.
In the boys’ varsity race, it was Colonel Crawford’s proving to be the difference. Even though a trio of Tigers secured the top three spots in the race, the Eagles outscored the Orange-and-Blue 39–50 for the crown.
Other team scores were: Bucyrus, 59; Wynford, 92; Crestline, 149; and Buckeye Central, 158.
For the winning Eagles, Payton Delaney placed fifth at 17:07.15; Clay Martin, sixth, 17:11.08; Logan Pfeifer, eighth, 17:36.86; Jon Hoffman, ninth, 17:46.07; and Keith Cotsmire, 11th, 17:52.84.
For Galion, it was county champion Chris McElligott at 16:38; Dominic Erlsten, second, 17:01; Zane Ekin, third, 17:01; Connor Kempf, 19th, 18:38; and Zach James, 25th, 19:16.
In the middle school girls two-mile race, Galion was first, 26; Colonel Crawford, second, 34; and Bucyrus, third, 66.

Colonel Crawford won the boys’ race. The Eagles had 26 points, Wynford, 52; and Galion, 54.
