Friends of the Bucyrus Pub­lic Library fundraiser Aug. 9–11

The Friends of the Bucyrus Pub­lic Library will hold a Bake-Book-Treasure Sale Aug. 9 and 10 from 11 a.m. — 6 p.m. and Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. — 1 p.m. in the base­ment of the Bucyrus Pub­lic Library. All pro­ceeds will be used for read­ing pro­grams. For more infor­ma­tion call 419–562-7023.

Water Car­ni­val Aug. 11

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 State Route 598 — Come to this great annual event spon­sored by the Craw­ford Park Dis­trict. Be ready to get wet and to have great fam­ily fun! Water is a nat­ural resource that we often take for granted. The Water Car­ni­val will give you an oppor­tu­nity to focus on the impor­tance of water in an ecosys­tem and to have a great time get­ting wet dur­ing water games! There will be fire trucks, a bicy­cle that goes across water, a slip and slide and food con­ces­sions. Lowe-Volk Park is located 3 miles north of US Route 30. Inspired Awak­en­ing Aug. 10, 11 and 12

Inspired Awak­en­ing, which begins Aug. 10 at 7 p.m., is for drug addicts, recov­ered addicts and any­one inter­ested in how to defeat drug addic­tion. The faith-based pro­gram will have speak­ers, bands and wor­ship ser­vices. The event will be held at Vic­tory Rock Praise and Wor­ship Cen­ter, 1700 Fairview Road, Galion.

Mar­ion Power Shovel Retirees to meet Aug. 11

Mar­ion Power Shovel Retirees, for­mer employ­ees, and spouses will gather Sat­ur­day, Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. for their annual reunion at Lin­coln Park on West Fair­ground Street in Mar­ion. Atten­dees are asked to bring a cov­ered dish to share. Mar­ion Power Shovel, Osgood-General and Com­mer­cial mem­o­ra­bilia wel­come. Event is planned the sec­ond Sat­ur­day of August annu­ally. Together Time will meet Sat­ur­day, Aug. 11 at Aumiller Park to dis­cover a trea­sure map. Meet at the Bell Tower at the main entrance at 10 a.m.

Hos­pice Corn Roast August 11

Food, fun, a live auc­tion and enter­tain­ment are lined up to sup­port a wor­thy cause at the 3rd Annual Com­mu­nity Corn Roast, slated for Sat­ur­day, August 11 from 5 p.m. until the food is gone. The Corn Roast will be held at the Ash­land Brethren in Christ Church, 2750 Mif­flin Avenue, next to Hos­pice House.

Fea­tur­ing a full menu of pulled pork, bar­be­cue beef, pota­toes, desserts, and sweet corn, the event’s freewill offer­ing will ben­e­fit Hos­pice of North Cen­tral Ohio. Also ben­e­fit­ing Hos­pice of North Cen­tral Ohio will be the evening’s live auc­tion sched­uled for 6:30 p.m. and a silent auc­tion last­ing until 7:45 p.m.

Enter­tain­ment at the Corn Roast begins with Mansfield’s Bri­anna Barnes singing from 5 – 5:30 p.m. Local band “The Road Home” fea­tur­ing Jason and Lydia Nowakowski will per­form from 5:45 – 6:30 p.m. Children’s games and activ­i­ties will be offered all evening, with face paint­ing, bouncy houses, and vis­its from local mascots.

CC BOE Aug. 14

The Colonel Craw­ford Local Schools Local Pro­fes­sional Devel­op­ment Com­mit­tee will hold a rou­tine meet­ing in the con­fer­ence room at the han­nah Craw­ford build­ing on Tues­day, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. The pur­pose of the meet­ing is to con­sider staff con­tin­u­ing edu­ca­tion and pro­fes­sional devel­op­ment for the district.

Two Scratch for Arduino Work­shops Sched­uled for Teens at Galion Library

Area com­puter expert and instruc­tor Jerry Francl will take his Scratch com­puter ani­ma­tion work­shop to the next level. On Tues­day, August 14 and Mon­day, August 20, teens a grades 7–12 will learn all about Scratch for Arduino. The Arduino board allows the Scratch pro­gram­mer to con­trol devices out­side the computer–beyond the 2 dimen­sions of the flat screen mon­i­tor to the 3 dimen­sional phys­i­cal world. We’ll be con­trol­ling col­ored LED’s, minia­ture fans, minia­ture air pumps, and other devices.

Teens can bring in their own lap­top com­put­ers or use one from the library’s lap­top lab. Teens can sign up for both classes or just one, but sign up is required for those who need to use one of the library’s com­put­ers to make sure that a lap­top is avail­able. There is no charge for this pro­gram. Get a jump start on the paper­work required as a part of the new school year by com­ing to our FORMS DAY on Aug. 16. This is a great oppor­tu­nity to sim­plify the first day of school by com­plet­ing forms and pay­ing fees before the rush of the new year begins. Stop by the Galion Inter­me­di­ate School any­time between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to com­plete impor­tant forms such as the Emer­gency Med­ical Form, Blue Card, Free and Reduced Lunch form, and School Fee Waiver/Sharing Form. By com­plet­ing forms in advance, you will know your child’s lunch sta­tus before school begins and can rest assured we have cur­rent con­tact infor­ma­tion should an emer­gency arise. This is also a great time to talk with staff about any ques­tions you have related to Trans­porta­tion, Food Ser­vice and Cam­pus Wear. Tif­fin Flea mar­ket Aug. 18–19

The Tif­fin Flea Mar­ket, spon­sored by the Seneca County Jr. Fair Foun­da­tion, will have its next show Aug. 18–19 on the Seneca County Fair­grounds, 100 Hopewell Ave., Tif­fin. Plenty of free park­ing and free admis­sion. Campin and break­fast avail­able. Bloomville Lions Club BBQ pork chop din­ner Sun­day 11:30 a.m. unitl 2 p.m. in the Youth Cen­ter Building.

Time for Another Cash Mob — Aug. 18

The Cash Mob con­tin­ues to gather the 3rd Sat­ur­day of each month at the Gazebo on Park Square at noon, where that day’s inde­pen­dently owned busi­ness to be vis­ited will be announced. The group will then pro­ceed to the cho­sen site for some early after­noon shopping.

To date, over 100 shop­pers have attended these event that began back in March.

Come out and join us and sup­port an inde­pen­dently owned busi­ness on August 18th at noon at the Gazebo on Park Square.

Johnsville Ice Cream Social Aug. 25

Field Day Aug. 28

The Craw­ford Soil and Water Con­ser­va­tion Dis­trict will host Water for Yields in Youf Fields Loss Creek Field Day Aug. 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Ron Schroeder Farm, 7042 Crest­line Road, Crest­line, across from Sun­rise Coop­er­a­tive. The day will include cover crop demo, tillage demo, con­trol drainage, 4Rs imple­men­ta­tion and farm­ers approach open discussion.

Fifty Shades of Wine at Main Street Books

Main Street Books is pleased to announce “Fifty Shades of Wine,” a part­ner­ing with the local win­ery Cypress Cel­lars on a wine tast­ing and book dis­cus­sion Fri­day, August 31 from 7–10 p.m.

Cypress Cel­lars is gen­er­ously donat­ing their wine and exper­tise for a free tast­ing on the final Fri­day of August. We will be tast­ing six to eight dif­fer­ent wines and using the get-together as a chance to dis­cuss the most-talked-about books of the year, the Fifty Shades tril­ogy. All three books will be sold that night at a 20% discount.
