Airplane crash overnight
The Galion Police Department responded to a single engine aircraft accident at the Galion Airport at approximately 7:45 pm. on August 7, 2012. Chris Oyster, 53 yoa of Bellville, Ohio, was attempting to land his Starduster Too SA300 experminental single engine plane. He was approaching from the east and did not maintain directional control after touching down on the runway. The plane turned sharply to the left and continued south off the runway. Mr. Oyster was able to get the aircraft back in the air but the aircraft went into an aerodynamic stall. Mr. Oyster was able to land the plane in a grassy area on the east side of the airport. The aircraft sustained heavy damage. Mr. Oyster sustained only a bloody nose and was able to walk away from the crash.Galion Police, Fire and EMS responded to the scene. The Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted with the accident investigation. Contact was made with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA will be conducting an investigation into the crash.
