Airplane crash overnight

The Galion Police Depart­ment responded to a sin­gle engine air­craft acci­dent at the Galion Air­port at approx­i­mately 7:45 pm. on August 7, 2012. Chris Oys­ter, 53 yoa of Bel­lville, Ohio, was attempt­ing to land his Star­duster Too SA300 exper­mi­nen­tal sin­gle engine plane. He was approach­ing from the east and did not main­tain direc­tional con­trol after touch­ing down on the run­way. The plane turned sharply to the left and con­tin­ued south off the run­way. Mr. Oys­ter was able to get the air­craft back in the air but the air­craft went into an aero­dy­namic stall. Mr. Oys­ter was able to land the plane in a grassy area on the east side of the air­port. The air­craft sus­tained heavy dam­age. Mr. Oys­ter sus­tained only a bloody nose and was able to walk away from the crash.

Galion Police, Fire and EMS responded to the scene. The Ohio State High­way Patrol assisted with the acci­dent inves­ti­ga­tion. Con­tact was made with the National Trans­porta­tion Safety Board and the Fed­eral Avi­a­tion Admin­is­tra­tion. The FAA will be con­duct­ing an inves­ti­ga­tion into the crash.
