Luvena Marie Jones

Luvena Marie Jones, 94, is with her Lord and Savior following her death Sunday, July 1, 2012 which occurred at Bucyrus Community Hospital.

She was born July 29, 1917 in Galion to the late Alfred and Estella (Paste) Post. Luvena was a 1935 graduate of Galion High School and on June 26, 1937 she married J. Howard Jones. Pastor Jones preceded her in death on May 3, 1996 following 59 years together. Also preceding her in death are an infant son, Stephen Robert Jones; brothers, Lee, Arvine, Russell and Elmer Post; and sisters, Laura Dell Peaslee and Geneva Dabney.

She is survived by two sons, David (Shirlee) Jones of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Daniel Jones of Shelby; and one foster-daughter, Lillian (Billy) Martin of Bucyrus with whom Luvena resided. She is also survived by four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Luvena was a devout Christian who loved her daily morning devotions and even when her vision became poor, she enjoyed listening to the word of God on CD. She and her husband were charter members of Calvary Baptist Church in Bucyrus where he served as Pastor and she was active as a Sunday School teacher, choir member and made sure the children had supplies for Vacation Bible School.

She was a loving mother who cared for her family as a homemaker and in her earlier years, she typed envelopes for National Mailing Service, a business owned by her brother. She cooked good meals, loved eating chocolate pie and, later in life, enjoyed going for rides in the car as long as Billy drove below the speed limit.

Luvena loved spending time with her family. There were many reunions and get togethers and they spent many Saturdays at Lake Erie swimming. Her hobbies included playing games such as Uno, Phase 10 and Skip-Bo was her favorite. She also liked watching game shows, doing word searches and watching nature from the comfort of her home. She will be missed, but she is together again with her husband whom she so loved as well as other family and friends.

Calling hours will be held from 5–8 p.m. Monday, July 2 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Ken Lance officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Calvary Baptist Church or to Visiting Nurses Association through the funeral home. Expressions of Sympathy may be left at www.wisefuneral.com.
