Setting up chairs

By 6:45 p.m. they were set­ting up extra chairs for the third wor­ship ser­vice in the Lenten Series. On March 11, the Wind­fall Emanuel United Church of Christ was filled to overflowing.

With sched­uled singer Simon Avila taken ill, local tal­ent stepped up to fill Sun­day evening’s Lenten ser­vice with wor­ship music: The Wind­fall Choir, Dave & Ethel Smith, John Slabach, The Pas­tels (Dianne Ahle­seld, Jan­ice Lemke, Joyce Isen­berg) and Lynda Wen­zel. The con­gre­ga­tion also par­tic­i­pated in a hymn sing.

Songs for the evening included “10,000 Angels,” “I’ll Be Singing with the Saints,” “Feel the Nails,” “He Touched Me,” “For Those Tears I Cried,” “Jesus Lis­tens,” “Can I Pray For You?” “The Blood Cov­ered All,” “Oh, What a Sav­ior,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Won­der­ful Grace of Jesus,” “If That Isn’t Love” and “How Great Thou Art.”

The offer­ing from the third Lenten Ser­vice was given to the Galion Min­is­te­r­ial Asso­ci­a­tion to be used for the tran­sient fund, for those arriv­ing in town, but hav­ing no place to stay.

The Galion Min­is­te­r­ial Asso­ci­a­tion invites you to attend the remain­der of the Lenten ser­vices. The fourth in the series will be Sun­day, March 18 at 7 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 746 Cherry St, Galion. Rev. Rick Mad­dox from Galion Alliance Church will minister.

The fifth in the series will be March 25 at 7 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 127 S. Colum­bus St., Galion. Rev. Richard Genz­men from Peace Lutheran church will minister.

The sixth will be April 1 at 7 p.m. at the First United Church of Christ, 244 Hard­ing Way West, Galion. This will be a con­cert with Jim and Shirley Tubbs from Ft. Wayne, Ind.

There will be a Good Fri­day Ser­vice at the Galion Com­mu­nity The­atre April 6 at 7 p.m.

There will be a Spring Sing at Wind­fall UCC Sun­day, April 22 at 6 p.m. The freewill offer­ing for the Spring Sing will ben­e­fit the North­east Ohio Leukemia & Lym­phoma Soci­ety Team in Training.
