1959 Galion Fire Department remembered

This 1959 col­lec­tion of por­traits of the Galion fire crew hangs in the fire depart­ment lobby today. From left: top, C. H. Lamb; H. P. Williams, cap­tain; J. A. Durtschi, chief; J. F. Mar­tien, cap­tain; and L. P. Fabian. Mid­dle, M. D. Mar­tien and R. C. Fabian. Bot­tom, J. L. Wolf, R. M. Rus­sell, C. C. Hern­don, Patsy the fire dog, H. B. Duke­man and T. E. Edmund­son. Durtschi con­tin­ued as fire chief into the late 1970s, accord­ing to Galion fire Lt. Todd Eagle. Leo Fabian worked at the Galion fire depart­ment for 40 years and J. F.     A trip down mem­ory lane. As a young boy grow­ing up in the 60’s and 70’s in Galion, I remem­ber Leo Fabian. Watch­ing Engine 4 roll down Hard­ing Way West, Fed­eral siren scream­ing and Leo hang­ing on the tail­board. I remem­ber the JC Penny fire and the old lad­der truck extended over the build­ing. Wish the photo was posted bet­ter, would like to see a larger image. Inter­est­ing how images as a youth stick with you. Like many mem­o­ries, things were big­ger then.….
