Kimmel’s closing Galion storefront
Kimmel Cleaners is closing its Galion storefront at 602 Harding Way West, but the company expects to keep doing business in the city.
Mark Kimmel, third-generation owner of the family business, said Thursday that he and his wife Kathy are coordinating with another local business to establish a drop-off point where customers can take their clothes to be cleaned. The details on the drop-off point will be announced at a later date.
The company will still run its twice-a-week route through town to serve its industrial and restaurant customers. At this point, existing individual customers have been added to the route in preparation for the storefront’s last day on Feb. 29.
The company won’t be laying off anyone in the closing—one woman is retiring and the other will be helping out at the Bucyrus Kimmel’s location.
Kimmel Cleaners has been a Galion landmark since the early 1980s when the Kimmel Corporation purchased the Tiger Cleaners business at the corner of Harding Way and Jefferson Street.
