The Colonel Crawford Board of Education held their organizational meeting on Monday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. to make elections and give the oath of office to those elected for the 2012 year.
The first order of business was to give Mr. Tinkey, Mr. Huber, and Mr. Willacker the Oath of Office.
Mr. Ley was then nominated and elected for Colonel Crawford Board President, Mr. Tinkey was nominated and elected as Vice President of the Board of Education. Ley and Tinkey took their Oaths of Office before moving on to more regular and administrative matters.
One change this year is that the board voted to hold their regular board meetings on the fourth Monday of every month, at 7 p.m. in the William and Hannah Media Center unless otherwise necessary to change. This is a change from the third Monday of every month.
The board authorized the Treasurer during 2012 to make payment of all contractual obligations, payrolls, utilities, freight and expense bills, postage and auto expenses. All payments are to be within the adopted appropriations. They also authorized the Treasurer to invest funds, modify appropriations and advance funds as needed during 2012.
Superintendent Bruner was authorized as Purchasing Agent for 2012. All purchases are to be approved within the adopted appropriations and any expenditures over $15,000 except food, payroll and utilities must be approved by the board first. Superintendent Bruner was also authorized, without further Board action, to apply on behalf of the district to participate in any federal or state project or program in which approval by the Board is required.
The superintendent is also authorized to employ personnel as needed in emergency situations, but such employment shall be presented and approved by the Board at the next regular meeting.
The board also authorized establishment of a service fund in the amount of $7,500 to be a part of the general fund for 2012 in accordance with section 3315.15 of the Ohio Revised Code. Section 3315.15 of the ORC is a service fund set-aside.
According to ORC 3315.15, “…these funds can only be used in paying the expenses of members of such boards of education and educational service center governing boards actually incurred in the performance of their duties, or in paying the expenses of members-to-be of such boards actually incurred in training and orientation to the performance of their duties from the date of election or appointment to the date of administration of the oath of office.”
The board then authorized the Treasurer to compensate the board of education members for up to twelve Board meetings per year and to attend board member training seminars at 80 percent of the maximum rate allowable by law.
With the organizational agenda completed, the meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
