CCBOE accepts scholarships, discusses State funding

State funding and scholarships were on the agenda at the Dec. 19 regular board meeting of the Colonel Crawford Board of Education. All of the board members were present.
Superintendent Ted Bruner informed the board that they’ve received a grant from the Colonel Crawford School Foundation to support grants written by teachers for use in their classrooms. The amount granted was $7,924.
Superintendent Bruner express appreciation for scholarships presented by J & F Construction, and grants from the Colonel Crawford School Foundation.
J & F Construction also donated $1,000 for the establishment of two $500 scholarships.
Supt. Bruner also explained that Mr. Mike Tinkey has been working with the State of Ohio to determine the formulas used for state contributions to area school districts. In the 2010–2011 school year, Colonel Crawford received $3933 from the state for each student. The state average across all districts was $5,109, with 79 percent of Ohio school districts receiving more state funding per pupil than Colonel Crawford.
Tinkey explained that he has already met with the State of Ohio to examine how the monies are awarded. “This is only the first step. It’s going to be a long process, but we’ll stay on top of it and keep you updated,” he said.
The board also approved the following employment resolutions:
Greg Lutz as a full time school bus driver pending proper certification and licensure. Mr. Lutz will be taking over Mrs. Donna Lust’s route 6.5 hours per day beginning January 3, 2011.
Mr. Nathan Rhodes as a school bus driver 3.25 hours per day pending proper certification and licensure. Mr. Rhodes will be transporting Colonel Crawford students to the Tomorrow Center in Mount Gilead.
Mrs. Patti Holloway as a school bus driver pending proper certification and licensure. Mrs. Holloway will be transporting students in the afternoon to Mansfield St. Peter’s in a co-operative effort with the Crestline Exempted Village Schools and Galion City Schools 4.0 hours per day.
The following positions were also approved for the 2011–2012 school year: Jody Wertz for bowling, Janet Black for drama, Karissa Fankhauser for drama 2, Dustin Clements for jazz band , Cheryl Corney for National Honor Society, Lynlee Dzugan for prom, Marilyn Ehmann for student council, Larry Walimire for vocal music, and Karissa Fankhauser for yearbook.
The board also approved a contract with North Central Ohio Educational Service Center to provide occupational therapy services for students at the rate of $65 per hour, and physical therapy at the rate of $79 per hour.
Before moving into executive session, the board also directed the Superintendent to apply for membership into the Athletic Conference known as the Northern Ten.
The CCBOE will hold the Organizational Meeting of the Colonel Crawford Local Schools Board of Education on Monday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.
